The 126th Athenry Agricultural Show took place on July the 5th. At mála we love show season. The laziness of winter gets shaken off and people of all ages come out to show what they have been up to in the spring. People get to compare notes on growing or crafting methods as well as competing with their peers for best in show. Agricultural shows are the backbone of a parish and are run completely by volunteers.
We decided to sponsor a prize this year for Athenry Show. The prize was for Best Adult Craft in show classes 192 tp 210. There was a great turn out and some fantastic craft on show. Our interest in bags drew us to this beautifully crafted handbag. A fantastic piece of work.
All the handcrafted items on display were worthy entrants and winners of their individual classes went head to head for the mála best in show prize.
There was great anticipation outside the craft hall while the judges deliberated. Then at 2pm the hall opened and all the prize winners were on show. The mala best in show award went to Eamon McCormack from Co-Roscommon. His entry was flagged early by many as being a real contender. Eamons medium was “decoupage”. The medium allows for a 3d presentation of an image. It was a real work of craft, taking about 60 hours to complete. You can see his entry below.
We would like to thank all who made our day a great one and we wish all at the Athenry Show great success into the future.
